Our Vision and Values

Vision

‘Sunderland will be a welcoming, internationally recognised city where people have the opportunity to fulfil their aspirations for a healthy, safe and prosperous future’

The Partnership is passionate about the city and its people. It is committed to tackling the challenges the city faces and improving the quality of life in Sunderland.

The Partnership promotes joint working to achieve its collective vision. This long-term vision for Sunderland is set out in the Sunderland Strategy 2008-2025, the city's sustainable community strategy which details what the people who live, work and study in the city today would like to see by 2025.

The five priorities for Sunderland are to create a more prosperous, healthy, safe, attractive and inclusive city as well as developing more learning opportunities for all residents.

More information can be found in the Sunderland Strategy

Values

The Sunderland Partnership works within a framework of values so that in everything we do we will:

  • Put people first
  • Be fair and open
  • Act with integrity
  • Strive to be the best
Partners across the city have worked together to make Sunderland a Fairtrade City as part of their commitment to a better future for all. We have successfully achieved  our accreditation status for the fourth year running. The city Fairtrade Steering Group continues to work to raise awareness of Fairtrade in Sunderland and encourage increased take up amongst partner organisations, local businesses, schools, faith groups and community organisations.

We have also made good progress in reducing the carbon footprint in the city as part of our commitment to the sustainability agenda.

The Partnerships effectiveness together with that of the City Council was recognised by the Audit Commission who referenced that in developing the Sunderland Strategy a good long-term vision had been developed based on a good understanding of needs and priorities of residents.
