The focus of the Safer Sunderland Partnership is to create a city where people feel, and are, safe and secure where they can enjoy life without the concerns of being a victim of crime or being harmed.
| The Safer Sunderland Strategy is delivered by the Safer Sunderland Partnership (SSP) which is made up of organisations from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors. The SSP is responsible for implementing the strategy and for reviewing and evaluating its success. |
Aims and Priorities
The SSP’s main aim is to make Sunderland a place where people feel safe and are safe. We want residents and visitors to go about their daily lives without worrying about becoming a victim of crime.
To do this, we will:
- Reduce re-offending
- Tackle alcohol misuse and alcohol related crime and disorder
- Tackle drug misuse and drug related crime and disorder
- Reduce anti-social behaviour
- Tackle violent crime (especially domestic violence; and violence against the person)
- Improve feelings of safety, perceptions of ASB and public confidence
- Respond to locally specific issues in order to close the gap between those communities experiencing disproportionate levels of crime.
Because we expect the type and nature of crime in the city to change, we will review these priorities annually.
The SSP will keep working to address crime and the causes of crime, so Sunderland’s residents feel safe and are safe.
