The Sunderland Partnership realises that some people suffer disadvantage or are marginalised because of their way of living or personal circumstances. Putting people first and valuing everyones views is a core value of partnership working.
Equality Forums provide a place where people can share their views and experiences, raise issues and discuss ways in which they can find solutions. This may be by exploring new ideas and working with other organisations, networks and partnership groups.
There are seven forums centred around the following equality strands:
- Disability
- Gender
- Race
- Older people
- Younger people
- LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual)
- Faith.
Equality Forums have a direct link to the Sunderland Partnership and its partner organisations. Meeting on a regular basis, feedback is communicated through Partnership structures - usually to the Sunderland Innovation and Improvement Group (SIIG). They can influence decision making and become involved in a range of consultation activity. It's a two-way process where the forums are also kept informed with feedback and decisions made.
Benefits of Equality Forum membership
Being part of a forum gives people a chance to meet others who are interested in similar issues and an opportunity to have their voice heard.
To find out more about the forums, or how to become a member, please contact the Sunderland Partnership on
