Local Area Committees

Local Area Committees operate in each of the five areas of Sunderland. The Committees are made up of local partners, council officers, Councillors and representatives from the Voluntary and Community Sector Networks. They produce Local Area Plans, which aim to shape services to meet the needs of residents living in the local area.

It is really important that local people are involved as they provide an insight into each neighbourhood. This gives the Committees the information they need to make effective decisions about how to continuously improve the quality of life for everyone living and working in the area.

Area Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) Networks

VCS Networks are established in the five areas of the city. Membership is open to all VCS organisations operating in Sunderland. Three delegates from each VCS Network attend the Local Area Committees in order to influence the strategic policies and practices that affect local communities.
