Who we are…

Sunderland Partnership is the city’s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), a group of key organisations who provide a wide variety of services in the city. It has a broad and committed membership and includes public, private, community and voluntary sector organisations.

Sunderland has a long history of partnership working and during the past few years partners throughout the city have made huge strides towards creating a way of life that delivers things that residents say they want.

The City of Sunderland Partnership was originally established in 1994, became the city’s Local Strategic Partnership in 2001 and was renamed Sunderland Partnership in 2005.

Our main tasks are to:

• agree, implement, monitor and review the Sunderland Strategy 2011-2025 (our sustainable community strategy);

• bring together local plans, partnerships and initiatives to allow effective joint working to meet local needs;

• agree, implement, monitor and review the Local Area Agreement

The partnership’s effectiveness is demonstrated by the fact that it is one of only four partnerships in the northern region with a ‘green light’ assessment from Government Office North East, which is the best possible outcome. The Sunderland Partnership is also represented on the national ‘LSP Futures’ group who are working to identify and share best practice and to respond to emerging issues.

Government has praised the work being done in Sunderland citing the
real innovation and movement away from the traditional model of delivering local services such as providing a full range of community services like those available at the Bunny Hill Service Centre.

Our values…

In working towards the achievement of our vision and aims by implementing the Sunderland Strategy, all actions and initiatives will be undertaken or enabled by members of the Sunderland Partnership within the following value framework.

In everything we do, we will:

Put people first - by developing our services and our organisations around the needs of local people, valuing and responding to their views and keeping people informed, through meaningful consultation processes and making decisions that have a lasting positive impact for the people of Sunderland

Be fair and open - by valuing every individual regardless of their race, sex,
age, religion, sexuality, disability, ethnic or national origin, personal beliefs or
circumstances and respecting individual rights, whilst looking after the interests of the wider community

Act with integrity - by taking decisions in an open and transparent way, adhering to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct, accepting responsibility for our own actions and ensuring the opportunity for people to participate in decision making

Strive to be the best - by being ambitious, reaching our vision through collaborative working, embracing learning and development for the benefit of individuals and partners, sharing our knowledge and experiences to learn from each other and build upon good practice.

Sunderland is a Fairtrade City

The Sunderland Partnership is also committed to Fairtrade.  In supporting Fairtrade principles, we will promote awareness of Fairtrade issues and the opportunities for supporting Fairtrade in the city, encourage the purchase of Fairtrade goods, and recognise the complementary nature of Fairtrade with existing activities in promoting the local economy.
